Planning a Successful Party - My Top 5 Tips

Sometimes you just need to throw a great party! There’s nothing like hosting and seeing all your friends and family together in the same place. But how do you do it? With adequate planning, the right food and music, a solid guest list, and a few things to do, your party is sure to be a hit and maybe even become a tradition.

As an experienced party planner, I have put together my top 5 tips on planning a successful, fun and enjoyable party whatever the celebration may be.

Tip 1

Set a date, choose your venue and prepare the guest list

These are the nitty gritty details that are best sorted out early on. Throwing your party at home and limiting the guest list to a reasonable number is one of the best ways but if space is an issue, consider a marquee or why not hire a venue?

Tip 2

Create a Theme

Milestones like birthdays and anniversaries can be even more fun when a creative theme is chosen to set the tone. Transform your space whether it be a Great Gatsby or a Mad Hatters tea party. The possibilities are endless!

Tip 3

Send Out Invites

Although online invitations are perfectly acceptable for last-minute get-togethers, there's nothing quite like receiving an invitation in the post to set the tone for a party and build anticipation for the fun in store. There are so many great designs available or create something bespoke to you.

Tip 4

Create a Speciality Cocktail

It's fun to include at least one specialty cocktail that leaves a lasting impression with your guests. Serve it in a chic glass or incorporate creative garnishes to make it extra festive.

Tip 5

Stay Relaxed

Leave yourself an hour before guests arrive to freshen up, slip into something party-ready and light some candles for added ambiance. This creates a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you open the door with a big smile and cocktail in hand, of course. Don't forget that, as the host, you set the tone, so a relaxed attitude will bring out the same in your guests.
